About Us
Our Purpose
In the quiet, remote village of Jauja in the beautiful Mantaro Valley, nestled high in the Peruvian Andes, a silent crisis unfolds. Here, countless vulnerable animals go unseen and unheard. This is why Pichuberry was born—a labor of love and a mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and bring hope to the forgotten pets.
Our journey is challenging, as we’re a small team of just seven local volunteers with no government support.
But what we lack in resources, we make up for in heart. Our volunteers are the very soul of Pichuberry, giving up their weekends, holidays, and even opening their own homes to foster rescued dogs and cats. Their dedication is boundless, and each one deserves our deepest gratitude for the incredible compassion they show every day. Together, we are determined to make a difference, one rescued life at a time.
The Team
We are a small but mighty team of seven local volunteers in Jauja, Peru. Each one is a student, a worker, a family member, and a pet owner—but they all find time to make an incredible difference for the vulnerable animals in our community.
Without their dedication, it would be impossible to reach the many animals who need help. Our volunteers are the heart and soul of Pichuberry, giving up Sundays and holidays to be there whenever there’s a call for help. Every one of them currently fosters cats and dogs in their own homes, and they deserve our deepest gratitude for the incredible work they do every day.
Our Founder’s Story
I come from Tingo Paccha, a small village about 15 miles north of Jauja. My childhood was filled with hardships—barefoot, often hungry, and without a guiding adult in my life. I grew up alongside six uncles, all around the same age, who shared the same struggles. We were society's forgotten children, left to navigate life alone.
But through it all, there was one constant source of comfort—our loyal dogs. These faithful companions were our protectors, offering love and loyalty when the world felt indifferent. They became our family, the ones who stayed by our side no matter what.
As a child, I wished I could do more for these dogs who were there for us, but I felt powerless. Now, as an adult, those memories fuel my determination to make a difference. This is why I created Pichuberry—to give back to these innocent animals who deserve so much more.
I invite you to join me on this journey. Together, we can transform the lives of these loyal companions, bringing them hope, warmth, and the care they’ve always deserved.
With your help, we can make a lasting impact and show them that they, too, are seen and cherished.
Thank you,
Clara Bancel
