The Man Who Chose the Forgotten
Pancan, Jauja.
Puppies are chosen.
Senior dogs are overlooked.
One by one, they stayed behind
In a quiet rural village in the Andes of Peru lives Señor Pedro, a man who refused to let 52 elderly dogs be forgotten.
Years ago, many of these dogs were part of adoption efforts. They were once small, once hopeful, once waiting for families.
But as they grew older, interest disappeared.
Señor Pedro made a decision: if no one else would choose them, he would.
Today, he cares for 52 elderly dogs, all spayed and neutered, giving them what they were once at risk of losing: stability, protection, and dignity.
This is not a shelter.
It is not a large facility.
It is a rural property where compassion became commitment.
Pichuberry supports Señor Pedro by providing monthly food and veterinary care. When a dog needs medical attention, we step in. When supplies are needed, we help.
But the daily care, the feeding, the cleaning, the quiet companionship, comes from him.
These dogs are no longer waiting to be adopted.
They are living their final years safely.
Sterilization ensured that their story did not multiply into another generation of abandonment.
Prevention works quietly.
It does not always look dramatic.
Sometimes it looks like 52 older dogs sleeping peacefully in the Andes.
Señor Pedro made a decision: if no one else would choose them, he would.
And one man who chose responsibility.
