Beyond 61 Lives: Pichuberry’s First Spay & Neuter Campaign in Quilcas

The Pichuberry team reached a meaningful milestone in our mission across the Peruvian Andes.
For the very first time, we brought our spay and neuter initiative to Quilcas, a rural district in the Province of Huancayo, Junín, nestled within Peru’s Mantaro Valley.
Quilcas is a warm, hard-working community deeply connected to small-scale agriculture and livestock.
While we knew the need for accessible veterinary care in the area was significant, the response from the local community moved us beyond measure.
A Sunrise Welcome & A Day of Shared Effort
Early Saturday morning, long before clinic doors officially opened, families were already lining up with their dogs and cats. For many residents, there was a sense of genuine amazement and relief that a dedicated spay and neuter campaign had finally arrived in their district.
What followed was an intense, full day of shared dedication. By the time our medical and volunteer teams wrapped up, we had successfully spayed and neutered 61 animals: 35 dogs and 26 cats.
Every single procedure represents an act of prevention - stopping thousands of future stray and suffering animals before their journey ever begins. But more than just numbers on a report, this campaign represents 61 lives protected and an entire community empowered.

This Is Only the Beginning
Our first day in Quilcas proved two things clearly: the need in rural Peru is vast, but the desire from local families to care for their animals is just as strong.
Sterilizing 61 animals is a vital first step, but our promise to Quilcas doesn't end here. We have made a firm commitment to return to the district at the end of October for a second spay and neuter campaign to keep building on this momentum as we work toward our goal of 2,500 surgeries this year.
To the community of Quilcas: this is only the beginning. We’ll see you again in October.
