Tetitas: From the Jauja Streets to a Forever Sanctuary
The sweet dog from the Jauja bus terminal
Tetitas is a gentle and friendly dog who lived for a long time at the bus terminal in Jauja, where many workers and drivers knew her well.
She was a familiar face there, always calm, sweet, and looking for kindness from anyone passing by.
In early 2025, we noticed something was wrong.
Tetitas began bleeding, and at first we believed she might simply be in heat.
At that time, Pichuberry did not yet have Casa de Aurora, and all of our foster homes were already full.
We were doing everything we could just to keep up with emergency rescues.
When the time was right, we brought Tetitas to the veterinarian and had her spayed, hoping this would protect her and improve her life on the streets.
But the bleeding didn’t stop.
By June 2025, when I was in Peru, we brought Tetitas back to the vet for more tests.
At first nothing appeared abnormal, but the bleeding continued. Something was clearly wrong.
After further examinations, we finally discovered the cause.
Tetitas had TVT (Transmissible Venereal Tumor) a cancer that affects many stray dogs who live on the streets.
She needed treatment immediately.
Tetitas began a series of four chemotherapy treatments, which required weekly trips to the veterinarian.
During this time she stayed at Casa de Aurora, where she could rest, recover, and finally feel safe.
Little by little, she became stronger.
Today Tetitas is healthy, happy, and free of the tumor.
The bleeding has stopped, and she enjoys life at Casa de Aurora surrounded by care and affection.
When Tetitas first arrived, we thought she might return to the streets after treatment.
But sometimes a dog simply becomes part of the family.
Tetitas did.
Now she is a beloved resident of Casa de Aurora.
