Acolla: Overcoming the Elements for Animal Welfare

On May 9, 2026

Pichuberry successfully carried out a vital sterilization campaign in the community of Acolla, marking another impactful initiative funded by the Marchig Animal Welfare Trust from the UK.

Despite the Challenges

Despite facing challenging weather conditions, including heavy rain and wet environments, the team and the community remained resolute. While the initial target was set for 50–60 surgeries, Pichuberry successfully sterilized a total of 43 pets and supported their families:

  • 26 kittens and cats

  • 17 dogs

Every sterilization campaign is an act of love and an opportunity for the community to stand up for their animals, preventing future suffering and saving hundreds of lives at the source.

Community Collaboration & Essential Support

The success of this campaign relies heavily on grassroots coordination and local logistics. Pichuberry extends a sincere thank you to Srta. Vanessa, our dedicated local coordinator, who was instrumental in organizing the event and providing essential operational supplies, including:

  • Colchonetas (resting mats for post-op recovery)

  • Medical weighing scale

  • Critical documentation and copies

  • Vital medical and sanitation supplies (1 liter of alcohol, 1 liter of hydrogen peroxide, and paper towels)

Shifting Mindsets: A Shared Responsibility

Pichuberry arrives to provide crucial access to low-cost sterilization campaigns, but lasting change requires a unified effort. We kindly ask our communities to continue fostering awareness around responsible pet ownership and the importance of sterilization.

While our volunteers work entirely from the heart for the animals, long-term impact depends on the ongoing commitment and responsibility of the community itself — acting as the voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. Pichuberry remains committed to helping, educating, and working with compassion, one community at a time.

Key Outcomes

43 total animals successfully sterilized

  • 26 felines protected

  • 17 canines protected

A True Team Effort

This campaign was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Marchig Animal Welfare Trust. Pichuberry expresses immense gratitude to the skilled veterinarians, dedicated volunteers, local coordinators, and every conscious family who took the important step of bringing their pets to the campaign to secure a better future.

Through Maddy’s Program – Andes of Peru, we continue our mission to expand sterilization access and prevent animal suffering across the region.
